HISTORICAL MARKERS
In 1976, the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners authorized the Historical Commission to establish a program to identify by placement of a marker historically significant events, people, or places. Throughout the County, markers commemorate archaeological sites, architectural structures, events, historic sites, natural resources, and persons that form the basis of Sarasota's history.
