Our mission is to research, preserve, publish and present the rich and diverse history of Charlotte County, Florida. While we presently do not have a physical history center and public museum, we keep our history alive in a multitude of free public programs that bring our history to life throughout the year.

The Englewood Florida Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization acting as an advocate to meet the needs of the business community. The objective of the Englewood Florida Chamber of Commerce is to advance the development of business and economic growth through professional and community services for the enhancement of Englewood and surrounding areas.
OUR MISSION: To collect, display and preserve items relating to Englewood's cultural heritage which will serve to help involve and educate the public and foster an understanding and appreciation of our rich local history and how this heritage affects the ongoing American experience.

Our Purpose: To support the Englewood Archives through fundraising, education, raising public awareness and establishing broad operating policies for the Archives.
Our mission is to advocate the value of the library to the community and elected officials, promote volunteering, and provide financial support. As a 501 (c) (3) Organization we are dedicated to the task of helping make our great library even better. Through our fundraising we are able to help the Fruitville Library purchase materials and services not provided through the Library’s regular budget.

The Mission of the Historical Society of Sarasota County is to foster public awareness of the rich historical heritage of Sarasota County and the state of Florida, encourage inquiry and research into this history, promote collection and preservation of memorabilia, The Historical Society of Sarasota County has a blogdevelop a broader appreciation of its historical communities, and protect its historic sites and structures.
In 1985, the Lemon Bay Historical Society was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization whose mission was “for the specific purposes of perpetuating the legacy of the past [and] honoring the pioneer settlers of the Lemon Bay area.”
Pineapple Press was founded in 1982 by June and David Cussen. We publish quality books that educate and entertain while they make the real Florida accessible to readers nationwide. Most of our titles are nonfiction books about Florida art, folklore, gardening, history, nature, travel, and more. We publish a few literary novels and children’s books about Florida, as well as some general nonfiction about lighthouses, nonprofit organizations, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
The Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation, Inc., a non-profit, publicly-supported 501(c)(3) organization's mission is to "preserve and enhance our historic places." It was incorporated in 1985 to save architect Dwight Baum's El Vernona Hotel, built in 1925 by owner Owen Burns, and which by the 1980s was known as the John Ringling Towers. Our highly publicized effort to save the towers during the late 1990s raised the community's consciousness and the ire of those interested in saving the historical integrity of Sarasota, Florida.
Historical Commission
The Sarasota County Historical Commission advises the County Commission regarding the acceptance of grants and donations; the marking of historic sites with County historical markers; the History Center annual budget; and historical material and data.
Sarasota Lodge No. 147 Free & Accepted Masons of Florida existed before Sarasota County. The Lodge was granted dispensation by the Grand Lodge of Florida on August 13, 1904 and many of its Masters were organizers of the County's inception! The Cornerstone laying at the Sarasota County Courthouse was done by a Past Master of the Lodge while he was the Grand Master of the State of Florida, MW Cary B. Fish. Sarasota Lodge No. 147 is dedicated to making good men better and helping the community of Sarasota.
Founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most respected undergraduate liberal arts honors organization in the United States. Through its national and regional associations and campus chapters, Phi Beta Kappa remains true to its motto: “Love of Learning is the Guide of Life." For 50 years, the Sarasota - Manatee Association of Phi Beta Kappa has recognized excellence in scholarship, and fostered friendship and lifelong learning.
The Venice Area Historical Society (VAHS) was founded in 1991 as the Venice Historic Preservation League, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in order to celebrate and preserve the history of Venice, Florida and surrounding areas. The service area of the Society is South Sarasota County, Florida, including Venice, South Venice, Nokomis, Laurel, and Osprey.
Venice Heritage Inc. (VHI) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Venice, Florida area’s rich cultural heritage, including the surrounding communities of Osprey, Laurel, and Nokomis.
Venice MainStreet is committed to preserving and enhancing the character, beauty, economic, and community vitality of Historic Downtown Venice. Since 1988, Venice MainStreet, Inc. has operated as a volunteer driven 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We work in Historic Preservation, Beautification, Promotion and Economic Revitalization.
The mission of the Venice Museum & Archives (VMA) is to collect and preserve historical and archaeological material relating to Venice and the communities of Nokomis, Laurel and Osprey, whose histories have all been interwoven from 1867 to the present time. VMA has a collection of 30,000+ photographs, archives, objects, and publications pertaining to area history and is housed in the historic 1927 Triangle Inn building.
VISIT SARASOTA COUNTY (VSC) is the official tourism marketing entity and primary provider of visitor information for Sarasota County where tourism is the top industry.

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe was founded in December 1999, as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our mission has always been to produce professional theatre that promotes and celebrates the African-American experience, attracts diverse audiences, supports and develops African-American artists, and builds the self-esteem of African-American youth.
Sertoma exists for the high and noble purpose of SERvice TO MAnkind by communication of thoughts, ideas and concepts to accelerate human progress in health, education, freedom and democracy. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the organization was founded on April 11, 1912. Over the years, individual members have brought forward their talents and joined the collective experience of thousands to chart a unique course of action for community service.
