Celebrating America’s Music
February 16, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

An all-American music program will open the series on February 16, featuring works by African-American composers Jessie Montgomery, Scott Joplin and William Grant Still in celebration of Black History Month. George Gershwin’s “Lullaby” and Arthur Foote’s “Serenade for Strings in E Major” will also be performed. Foote’s serenade was premiered at the 1893 World Exposition in Chicago.
For 2021, the Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota will present two concerts with audience in attendance, sharing the joy of live music in a beautiful and safe environment. Since its inception, the orchestra has performed at the Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota with its soaring architecture and resounding acoustics.
“We are thrilled to be back together making music and looking forward to playing live concerts for our audience. The concert experience will be a little different, but they will be thrilled by the depth and passion of our music-making,” said Robert Vodnoy, music director. “Every aspect of the concert experience has been revamped in careful compliance with safe social distancing practices. The Church of the Redeemer has installed a new, highly effective HVAC system. Audiences will be limited in size to allow for social distancing, and wearing a mask during the concert will be required. The one-hour concerts will be performed without intermission.” Tickets are $25 and may be purchased online or at the door.
